North Shore kitchen : crisp, clean style
|
The kitchen and lounge/living area in this new home form a single, open-plan space. The brief from our client was to create a kitchen (with scullery) that was part of the entire space yet separate at the same time. Additionally the client wanted the kitchen to be light-filled and spacious. Despite the trend to open-plan living that brings the kitchen, dining and living areas together in one space, it calls for thoughtful design that acknowledges the different roles each of these areas still has to play.
Designer Wayne Church's solution was to keep the kitchen look simple, clean, and understated. White-on-white cabinetry with negative handle detail, a pale glass splashback, and grey granite benchtops keep the feeling light and subtle. |
Running the kitchen cabinetry almost to the ceiling, and into a bulkhead, creates the illusion of a wall rather than boxy cupboards typical in kitchens. This considerably reduces the visual impact of this kitchen in the overall space.
A simple but delicately proportioned island separates the kitchen from the living area, not too intrusive but a delineation between kitchen and and dining/living. The outcome is exactly as intended: a functional, spacious kitchen that is elegant, stylish and understated. DESIGN: Wayne Church/Neo Design MANUFACTURE + INSTALLATION: Neo Design |
