Gorgeous Devonport kitchen renovation |
The owners’ renovation of their open plan living/dining space included a new kitchen, resurfaced rimu flooring, and freshly painted walls. They also wanted to keep the rimu ceiling battens that had been added after the house was built. The existing kitchen was closed off from the open-plan area which the clients were keen to open up. They were also keen on a classic shaker-style kitchen to match the era of their weatherboard home. The challenge for the designer, Wayne Church, was to create a kitchen that would bring all these elements together. The L-shaped format along the two walls was retained but adding a free-floating island created a whole new flow, allowing entry to the kitchen from both ends. Floating rimu shelves, and shelves in the bookcase, create a link to the rimu floor and ceiling. |
On the practical side this kitchen is highly specced with Fisher and Paykel appliances including an integrated double dish drawer, integrated RS90AU1 fridge freezer and OB76 oven. Overhead extraction is silent thanks to a Schweigen extractor with externally mounted motor. The Villeroy and Boch undermounted fireclay butlers sink adds a classic look in the Primestone benchtop. The new kitchen has created a revitalised, open space that expresses the owners’ vision and taste, and provides a highly functional solution to their brief.
